Injectable Fillers

Dermal /Lip Fillers (Hyaluronic acid) Aftercare & Advice.

As a medical professional, I want to provide you with essential guidance following your dermal /lip filler treatment. During the procedure, a hyaluronic acid gel was carefully injected into your skin or lips to enhance their shape, proportion, shadows, or wrinkles.

The results of fillers are immediate. Dermal filler results can last an average between 9 to 18 months, and lip filler results last an average between 6-12 months. **Longevity of fillers may vary depending on individual body metabolism, and a routine touch-up may needed to maintain your desired volume.

What to Expect After the Procedure:

• Due to the anaesthetic agent in the filler, you might experience numbness or tingling right after the procedure. It’s common to have moderate swelling, redness, pin prick marks, bruising, and tenderness over the treated areas.
• Some individuals might feel a dull ache and tenderness, which usually subsides within 48-72 hours.
• Mild, non-painful swelling can persist for up to 2 weeks.
• Bruising is typically visible initially, becoming more apparent the following day before fading over 7 to 14 days. In rare cases, a small minority of bruises can last for 4-6 weeks.

How to Safeguard Your Results and Minimize The Downtime:

First 4-6 hours:

• Keep yourself upright.
• To reduce the risk of infection and reaction, avoid touching the treated area.

Next 24 hours:

• Avoid alcohol and smoking.
• Use a cold pack to keep the treated area cool, but avoid applying direct ice for a prolonged period, which can cause injury and worsen bruising.
• Gently apply regular Arnica cream over the injection sites.
• Drink plenty of water or fluids to aid with the swelling.
Strictly no makeup to be worn pre-and post-treatment.
• Avoid very hot shower and over-cleansing the skin.
• Steer clear of unnecessary pressure/massage on the treated areas.
• Avoid strenuous exercises or excessive physical activities up to 48 hours post treatment as they could increase blood flow and body temperature, worsening the bruising and swelling. Facial herpes (cold sore) outbreaks may occur.

Next 2-4 weeks:

• Avoid flying for at least 1 week post-treatment.
• It’s essential to avoid exposure to direct UV light and extreme cold /heat including saunas, steam rooms, sun-beds.
• Avoid dental work for up to 4 weeks.
• Avoid invasive laser or skin treatment on the same area of the filler treatment up to 4 weeks.
• Refrain from facial massages, electrical stimulations, or skin resurfacing until the area has fully healed, this is to prevent risk of infection and filler migration.
